Here's exactly how I care for my raw Indian hair so it stays soft, full and lasts you years instead of months.

First — wash & co-wash before you install

  • Whenever your hair arrives, I advise you to wash and co-wash it before installing.
  • Use a clarifying shampoo first. Then co-wash and let the conditioner sit for 30 minutes to an hour.
  • After that, let the hair air dry — then you can begin installing it to your liking.

Heads up: raw hair is high maintenance

  • Raw hair is high maintenance — it's real hair and it behaves like your own.
  • That means wrapping it at night (or a silk wrap / bonnet), and keeping up with a curly routine if you're wearing a curly or wavy texture.

My curly routine

  • Spray the hair down with a spray bottle of water.
  • Work conditioner through it (product recommendation coming soon — I'll add the exact one I use).
  • Diffuse it until it's dry.
  • Then use a wide-tooth comb to pick out the curls for a more voluminous, fluffed-out look.

Straight hair routine

  • At night, either wrap it with a silk scarf or braid it so it doesn't tangle while you sleep.
  • In the morning, brush it out, then use a heat protectant — I use BioSilk.
  • Straighten it and you're good to go.
